Check which one is similar for your case according to the different scenarios described here. One thing for sure \u2014 respect the &#8220;golden rules&#8221; (below).<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have a Rescue\/Repair Media (CD or pen) you may <strong><a class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 Fails to Find System Image Backup.<br>\nAttempt to restore a Windows system image fails because the System loaded by the Repair\/Rescue disk or pen drive is not able to recognize the image file returning the following message:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&nbsp; Windows Cannot Find a System Image on This Computer<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_01.jpg\" alt width=\"565\" height=\"349\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" system image (radio option above to the buttons) returns an empty list.<br>\nAlso, a refresh doesn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" root folder structure must be like this:<br>\n<i>DRIVE:<\/i>\\WindowsImageBackupwhere&nbsp;<i>DRIVE<\/i> is a letter, for instance, C, D, E or whatever).<br>\nExample:&nbsp;D:\\WindowsImageBackup<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_08.jpg\" alt width=\"370\" height=\"163\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20370%20163%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt width=\"370\" height=\"163\" WindowsImageBackup folder, unlike the right that has many.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_09.jpg\" alt width=\"286\" height=\"109\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20286%20109%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt width=\"286\" height=\"109\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_09.jpg\" class=\" lazyload\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>:&nbsp; <em>sometimes although having multiple images under the WindowsImageBackup folder, it was possible to restore, but sometimes I had to move the other images outside the WindowsImageBackup as shown by the images above. The same to a renamed file with a different name from COMPUTERNAME envvar (environment variable).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>This is not the kind of application that makes me feel absolutely secure that I do have a backup when I need one!&nbsp; \ud83d\ude10<\/em><br>\n<em>Unfortunately&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Under this folder, there is a subdirectory titled with the computer name when the image was done.<br>\nIt is the same name returned by the command:&nbsp;&nbsp; <em>echo %COMPUTERNAME%.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_10.jpg\" alt width=\"531\" height=\"179\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20531%20179%22%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" alt width=\"531\" height=\"179\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ultering.com\/itstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/windows_retore_image_not_found_10.jpg\" class=\" lazyload\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>3.&nbsp;<\/b>It is necessary a&nbsp;<b>Repair\/Rescue disk or pen drive&nbsp;<\/b>with the same version of the system when the image was created.<\/p>\n<p>Pay attention that if it is not the case when we had a prior version, for instance, Windows 7 that had an upgrade to Windows 10.<br>\nIn this case, you need a <b>Repair\/Rescue disk or pen drive&nbsp;<\/b>from Windows 7, the same O.S, used to create the image, otherwise, it will be required a <b>Repair\/Rescue disk or pen drive&nbsp;<\/b>for Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve forgotten to create <b>Repair\/Rescue disk or pen drive for Windows 10<\/b>, you may get from someone who has Windows 10 or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1gs5r_oy2wWNxfIZScDb0QZAbQaYdn9zn\/view?usp=sharing\">download here an iso image<\/a><\/strong> to be used with bootable pen drive or CD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>4.<\/b> The source must be whole, fully preserved as it was the original content when the image was created.<br>\n<strong>If corrupted or missing something it won&#8217;t work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>&gt;SOLUTION&nbsp; N.1 &#8211; WHEN ORIGINAL SOURCE FAILS<\/h3>\n<p>This solution supposes the most simple use case when you have an external HD where you have saved a single System Image and no more.<br>\nIn other words, this HD was exclusively used to hold the unique backup you&#8217;ve made no change at all.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ATTEMPT_N1A\"><\/span>ATTEMPT N.1.A<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Always supposing the &#8220;golden rules&#8221; above are respected, the restoring procedure should work, but it doesn&#8217;t.<br>\nFirst, make sure that the Repair\/Rescue disk you are using is exactly the same you have created when your system image backup was done. Remember that at the end of an image backup, the application asks you if it is desired to create a Rescue disk.
